The Next Play: 50 Ontario Organizations Commit to Make a Difference for Girls in Sport

Canadian Women & Sport is proud to announce to 50 Ontario sport, physical activity and recreation organizations selected to participate in The Next Play program, made possible by the Government of Ontario.
The Next Play program empowers sport leaders with tools and resources to engage more girls and gender-diverse youth from diverse backgrounds in active recreation. Organizations will complete training to counter gender bias in program design and receive a grant to fund an initiative they will design during the program.
In 2023, 180 sport leaders from 90 Ontario-based organizations engaged more than 3,000 girls in community-based programming thanks to The Next Play.
“The message is clear: sport organizations across Ontario are eager to engage and retain more girls in sport. Through The Next Play, organizations will take essential steps to make their offerings more safe, welcoming and inclusive for girls. Every girl should have access to the benefits of physical activity, and we’re excited to work with these sport organizations to realize this vision for sport in Ontario for generations to come.”
