Trans Awareness Week

This week is #TransAwarenessWeek – a week to bring attention to issues that impact trans communities. Did you know that 81% of trans athletes have experienced or witnessed LGBTQ+phobia in sport (Demers and Michon, 2019)?
According to a 2018 report by the Human Rights Commission, only 19% of gender queer and nonbinary youth, 14% of trans boys, and 12% of trans girls participate in sport. Here are some resources to help you build more inclusive sport for trans participants:
- Explore guidance from the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sports on how to create inclusive environments for trans participants;
- Read our position paper on the inclusion of trans athletes in sport;
- Explore LGBTQI2S+ inclusion resources on our website.
We support the full participation of trans people in sport, including trans women and girls, in ways that affirm their gender identity. Everyone has a right to participate in sport that is safe and inclusive.
