Position available: Manager, Knowledge Mobilization

Canadian Women & Sport is seeking a creative and motivated Manager, Knowledge Mobilization. This position reports directly to the Director, Marketing & Growth and works closely with staff, contractors, committees, and other external stakeholders.

The Manager, Knowledge Mobilization is responsible for leading research and thought leadership activities, analyzing and interpreting findings and developing content for dissemination. They will take a leading role in building and strengthening research and content partnerships and supporting the development of marketing strategies. They have strong project management skills, excellent communication skills both written and verbal, and are comfortable managing committees and advisory groups. They can bring an intersectional lens to their work, reflecting diversity, equity and inclusion.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter who has considerable industry knowledge and can bring evidence-based research and meaning into our programs and activities. They can work independently and thrive on relationship management. They will act as a subject matter expert/ lead on gender equity in the sport and physical activity sector on behalf of Canadian Women & Sport.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Content creation for knowledge mobilization, advocacy and thought leadership activities

  • Collect relevant research and data (e.g., academic literature, grey literature, data solicited directly from participating organizations/ individuals), distilling the most relevant points and sharing it strategically internally and within the sport sector.
  • Support internal stakeholders by providing guidance and support on best practices and processes for integrating research and evaluation into program/project plans and engaging researchers, helping to ensure effective application of research and consistent, smooth processes.
  • Develop clear content outlines and project briefs in order to manage efficient and clear review and feedback processes (both internally and with external advisors, researchers, and committees).
  • Coordinate and communicate with internal stakeholders to promote alignment across all activities with organizational priorities.
  • Collaborate with the creative and communications team on copy editing, design, content development, and content calendars.
  • Provide evidence or insight to inform marketing and communications items, helping to ensure the credibility and effectiveness of communications outputs.

Project management of research and knowledge mobilization projects

  • Act as the project manager on research projects in conjunction with the Impact Research Committee, internal and external stakeholders. Providing strategic and tactical direction, overseeing the budget and timelines, and ensuring the quality of the output.
  • Design projects to meet objectives, including creating detailed creative briefs for approval, utilizing internal project management tools.
  • Strong communication, providing updates, flagging issues, celebrating successes and learnings within the team.
  • Identify resources required for each project, develop budgets, and secure appropriate approval(s).
  • When necessary, develop and manage the Request for Proposal process and/or contracting process or otherwise identify external consultant/resource to engage.
  • Assemble and coordinate advisory or review committees, as need be, including drafting of Terms of Reference, etc.
  • Measure and evaluate the outcomes of the project.

Manage the research agenda and knowledge mobilization plans

  • Own the research agenda, updating it regularly to reflect the strategic plan and in response to changing opportunities and circumstances.
  • Recommend research projects to prioritize in consultation with the Programs and Marketing/Communications teams, as well as the Impact Research Committee.
  • Develop and implement the knowledge mobilization strategic action plan, including topics and formats that will support the achievement of Canadian Women & Sport’s strategic plan.

Deepen relationships with the research community

  • Build and strengthen relationships with strategic partners including the Impact Research Committee.
  • Coordinate the activities of the Impact Research Committee, in close consultation and collaboration with the (co-)chairs (e.g., set out annual plans, schedule meetings, set agendas).
  • Engage the Impact Research Committee in key projects and activities, securing their support to advance the research agenda’s operationalization and ensuring members’ ongoing engagement.
  • Respond to external partnership requests from researchers, evaluating the opportunities and providing a recommendation for approval.
  • Develop and maintain an informal network of researchers, ensuring intersectionality is reflected among the researchers and their areas of research.
  • Serve as an ambassador for the organization at events and conferences, nurturing a network of relevant relationships.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Master’s Degree or equivalent in the area of public health, health sciences, kinesiology, knowledge mobilization or equivalent area of study with a focus on gender equity, diversity and inclusion is required.
  • 5 years of progressive experience within a health, academic or research institution, marketing and communications, public relations, or equivalents.
  • Demonstrated understanding of knowledge translation and mobilization theories and practice, individual and organizational behaviour change and experience with their practical application.
  • Very strong project management skills including excellent attention to detail and ability to manage timelines and budgets.
  • Leadership skills to work with diverse teams and partners to develop, plan, deliver, monitor and evaluate knowledge products from conception to public release and dissemination.
  • Experience applying an intersectional gender equity lens, including specific understanding of anti-oppression and accessibility principles and their applications.
  • Exceptional oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with an ability to get points/ideas across in a succinct and professional manner.
  • Skilled at stakeholder engagement, participatory approaches, and relationship management.
  • Self-motivated, highly organized, and comfortable managing multiple work streams at once with high attention to detail.
  • Experience working or volunteering in the Canadian sport and physical activity system is an asset.
  • Proven experience working with and optimizing the use of CRMs (Salesforce specifically a bonus) to develop and manage opportunities, reporting, and relationship management.
  • Experience working with other digital tools such as Microsoft Teams and SharePoint, Zoom, and Submittable or equivalents.
  • Bilingualism (French-English) is a strong asset.


  • Salary Range: $63,000-$70,000 plus comprehensive health benefits.
  • Location: Remote, work-from-home with potential for in-person engagements. The full Canadian Women & Sport team is remote across Canada.
